- Don't be generic, modify your individual letters for each firm you apply to
Starting off Strong
- Opening paragraph should catch the reader's attention
- Mention if you were recommended for the position by someone in the firm (hiring manager, etc)
- Have a strong opening sentence, (Your need for a staff member is a good match for my experience...)

- Don't just re-hash details from your resume
- Focus on aspects that relate directly to the job opportunity
- Mention any relevant experience, accomplishments, training or certifications
Focus on the Firm
- Explain how you will add value to the firm
- Have a "you" attitude instead of an "I" attitude
- Sell your qualifications in a way that will complement the firm's needs
Proofread
- It is absolutely essential to proofread your cover letter for accuracy
- Errors in grammar, syntax, and/or punctuation could result in having your resume discarded
- Make sure your documents are addressed to the correct firm that you're applying for
Tips
