Fall 2014 Awards and Initiation Banquet
The fall 2014 Awards and Initiation Banquet took place on December 4, 2014, at the Long Beach Holiday Inn. The night was filled with conversation, great company, and recognition of our members for all their hard work throughout the semester. The Nu candidate class was initiated into Beta Alpha Psi; inspiring words were given by Roger Weninger, Regional Managing Partner at Moss Adams; awards and scholarships were distributed; new officers were instated; and great prizes were raffled away.
Shortly after dinner was served, the attendance was fortunate to experience the inspiring words of Keynote Speaker Roger Weninger, Regional Managing Partner at Moss Adams. Roger took the stage and shared his experiences in going into public accounting. Through his speech, Roger reminded us of how fortunate we are to have an education, and also reflected on how “special [we] are” as individuals. His words informed us to have confidence in who we are and believe in ourselves as we encounter new experiences in our careers. Much appreciation is given to Roger for his attendance and words of wisdom. Next, various awards were given to deserving members who showed their support for their organization: Most Outstanding Beta Alpha Psi Candidate, Peter Velez; Most Outstanding Beta Alpha Psi Member, Anthony Aguilar; Most Outstanding Returning Accounting Society Member, Yessica Gaytan; and Most Outstanding New Accounting Society Member, Sarah Hui. Other great scholarships were given out as well: Moss Adams, Brianna Jorgenson; KPMG, Phillip Smith, Jason Irvin, and Richard Cardenas; RKE, Stephanie Gutierrez; and HCVT, Ryan Yee. The Almuni Scholarship was awarded to Allen Au. Tension was certainly felt later on in the evening when over 10 prizes were raffled off. Donated by the Nu Candidate Class, all of the prizes were high stakes, including a new printer, a Nutibullet, an iHome, and speaker systems. Fortunately, the organization raised approximately $750 through the raffling. After the awards and scholarships were given, The Nu Candidate Class was sworn in as members of Beta Alpha Psi. The Nu class showed full support in BAP&AS, as each member dedicated 50 hours toward volunteer events, socials, and firms tours. The pledge class even raised over $3,100 throughout the semester. While much credit should be given to newly instated BAP members, their pledge class officer, Richard Kerr, was also outstanding in helping guide them through the pledging process. To the new BAP members, welcome and congratulations. Later, the Officer Transitions took place. The new Spring 2015 Officer Board took over as outgoing officers Briana Jorgenson, Jennifer Mae Formeloza, Richard Kerr, Jennifer Kheang, and Alan Tan passed on the torch. This organization would not stand as it does if it were not for your service, thank you. Over all, the evening was a fun event for everyone, including the visiting professionals. Congratulations to everyone involved in BAP&AS during Fall 2014, and welcome to another great semester. Article by Kevin Macy |
