Meet the Firms
Yet another successful Meet the Firms took place on Thursday, February 26, at the Grand in Long Beach. Given our increased membership in Accounting Society - due to our fantastic recruiting this spring - we continued in using the Grand for its larger space. Approximately 200 students attended the event along with nearly 100 professionals; that's a 2:1 student to professional ratio. Approximately 20 accounting firms and 5 government agencies attended the event, allowing everyone the opportunity to find which firm fits them best.
Meet the Firms is often an eye-opening event for new members to BAP&AS. This was the case for new accounting society member, Jose Lara. After the event, Jose found his expectations to be different from what he experienced. “I expected a competitive environment because everyone was so highly motivated to stand out, but it wasn't competitive at all. The professionals were looking at you as an individual, not comparing you to everyone else.” For Jose, he now has an idea for what to expect next semester, and when asked what he wanted to improve for next MTF, he said he wants to have a better understanding of what public accounting is about. “I want to understand what they're talking about to see if [the firm] is right for me.” While it may be off-season for recruiting for internships and full-time offers, many BAP&AS members were looking for their opportunity at a summer leadership conference. Many firms are offering summer leadership conferences this summer, including HCVT, EY, KPMG, Windes, Deloitte and Moss Adams. Regardless of what position students were recruiting for, the time was well spent networking with and meeting new professionals. Best of luck to all those who are looking for the opportunity at a summer leadership conference. |
