Run Seal Beach Volunteer Event
Another race means another opportunity for BAP&AS volunteers to help the community run their events. The Run Seal Beach Organizing Committee is a non-profit organization whose charter is to raise funds and awareness for recreational programs in the greater Seal Beach community. Since the formation of this organization, Run Seal Beach has contributed $1,200,000 back to several programs and local community needs; fortunately, BAP&AS members were able to help achieve this.
On Saturday, March 21, 2015, ten of our members woke up bright and early to offer their assistance and energy at Seal Beach’s Run Seal Beach: Surf, Sun, and Run event. The event consisted of a 5K and 10K run with an inclusive age bracket, ranging from 10 & under all the way up to 80 & over. One specific bracket worth mentioning was the 40-44 year bracket, where a man at the age of 42 finished the 5K course within 17 minutes! Congratulations to this gentlemen, doubt any of our members or CBA faculty would be able to do that.
During the event, BAP&AS members were responsible for keeping the event clean, organizing waste from recyclables, and grabbing empty water bottles and cans of coconut water from everyone who finished the race. BAP&AS Xi Candidate Class President, Alfredo Angeles, went above and beyond by lifting and carrying several barrels of recycle containers throughout the vicinity back onto their trucks. While maintaining a positive attitude, our members had to get a little dirty in order to keep the race and beach clean and free of waste. Nevertheless, the Xi Candidate Class enjoyed their time with one another while supporting our community. Article by Huan Le Photos by Natalie Nguyen |
