Committee Meeting
With the bright sun out and summer breeze in the air, the idea of showing up at school on a Sunday morning in the middle of July isn’t the most exhilarating event to plan during the summer break. Nevertheless, the Fall 2015 Committees managed to work in a date to hear about the plans and goals of both the officer board and committee chairs for the upcoming Fall semester.
To begin the meeting, our new BAP&AS president, Yoshe Yamada, started off by recapping the previous semester and the successes that our chapter achieved. While much praise was given towards our achievements, attention was also given to the areas that faulted or came short of our goals. Brian Nguyen and Kevin Macy presented their plan to enhance the mentor program to make the system more personal and create longer-lasting relationships between peers. The floor was then opened for discussion on future alumni social events, feedback on the mock summer leadership conference, and other events that had occurred in the previous semester.
Several new ideas were also brought to the meeting. “Lunch-n-Learn” sessions was an idea to have students spend their lunch time eating and learning specific professional skills. Senior BAP&AS members would present on topics such as e-mail etiquette, public speaking, and several other useful skills. Another new potential idea was to create a fundraising committee to help bring more funds into BAP&AS. This committee, along with possible donation and advertising options, could open several new doors for acquiring larger venues for Meet the Firms and the Awards and Initiation Banquet.
Dates for Meet & Greet, Big Buddy Little Buddy, and our Meet the Firms event were also released. After the announcements, the committees broke off to exchange contact information and discuss detailed plans for the rest of the semester.
We look forward to seeing a bigger and better BAP&AS organization!
