Daniel came to Long Beach as a pre-marketing major and soon switched to management. It was when Daniel interned with College Works Painting that he was introduced to accounting. Through his internship, he had the opportunity to paint the house of a senior partner of a middle-sized accounting firm in Southern California. After performing the job, the partner invited him to work as an office admin for the summer; Daniel had no previous accounting experience. Later, after taking John Lacey for ACCT 201, he knew the change to accounting was the right move.
Now, Daniel is pledging for Beta Alpha Psi and increasing his involvement in the organization. He is looking to get his career started while at a Big 4, where he hopes to learn as much about the public accounting industry as possible. While he is not working or studying, Daniel runs his own business – Pool Guy Daniel Chacon Services. He started the business in high school when his dad give him 10 clients. Since then, he has grown his customer base and learned all aspects of operating his business. Daniel also enjoys other activates like football, swimming, surfing, and other outdoor activities like beach camping. Also, he is involved with Alpha Gamma Omega - CSULB’s Christian fraternity - where he served as Pledge Captain. Beyond that, Daniel is in the Honors Program on campus and is a certified scuba diver. |
Before college, Alyssa came to the United States from the Philippines with her mom and step-dad in 2008. The first year was a very difficult transition, especially in learning English, but with hard work she has been able to adjust and feel comfortable here.
Alyssa started at Harbor College in Wilmington as nursing major. After a year and a half, she decided it was not for her. She was recommend by her friend to try introductory accounting. It was after this class that she knew she wanted to transfer to Long Beach and pursue accounting. School and Beta Alpha Psi are not her only involvements; Alyssa has worked at Food for Less in Torrance for almost 4 years. Interestingly, she was even selected to be in two pictures on promotional materials advertised by the company. Now, Alyssa is looking for summer leadership conferences and is also looking for an accounting internship this summer. She is excited to expand on her education by gaining an accounting position. While she is still unsure about tax or audit, she does know that she wants to go into public accounting. Alyssa greatly enjoys watching movies, especially comedies, dystopian-driven films, and dramas. Some examples are The Imitation Game and Interstellar (good selections, indeed). Her family is also greatly important to her, and see them as a strong inspiration for what she does in her work and at school. |
